The Dilruba is a bowed string instrument cherished in Sikh classical music for its melancholic beauty, portable design and soul-stirring tone. Its name, meaning "thief of the heart" in Persian, reflects its deeply emotional sound, ideal for Gurbani Kirtan and spiritual introspection.
Designed by the King of Kings Guru Gobind Singh Ji (10th Sikh Guru), the Dilruba was made as a smaller, lighter version of the Taus, which allowed the Khalsa warriors to carry it on horseback when travelling to battle.
Key features of the Premium Dilruba:
Handcrafted from high-quality seasoned tun or teak wood
4 main playing strings and 15-20 sympathetic strings (tarabs) for shimmering resonance
Traditional goat-skin soundboard
