The Sarod is a powerful, fretless string instrument known for its deep, resonant sound and rapid melodic runs. It is believed to be adapted from the Aghani Rabab. Rooted in Hindustani classical music, the Sarod has found a place in classical Raag Kirtan and spiritual compositions that emphasise the raw emotional force of Shabad. Carved from seasoned tun or teak wood, with a polished metal fingerboard and a goatskin-covered resonator, the Sarod combines raw earthiness with refined expression. Its fretless design allows for smooth meend (glides), making it ideal for exploring the subtle emotions contained within the Raags.
